Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel has instructed Rajarshi Janak University to identify key challenges facing the education sector in Madhesh Province through research and study and submit recommendations to the ministry. Speaking at a program held in Dhanusha on Wednesday, Minister Pokharel said the government is currently working on the Education Act and urged the university to contribute by conducting research into the province’s educational problems and potential. She emphasized that universities should go beyond teaching and learning and play an active role in research and identifying solutions to issues within their respective fields. Minister Pokharel said the government is working seriously to improve the quality of education in Madhesh and highlighted the need to reduce the dependence of students on Kathmandu for higher education. She called on Rajarshi Janak University to study the reasons behind the lack of quality education in the province and provide the ministry with evidence-based recommendations. She also said preparations for constructing the necessary infrastructure for a new university have progressed and stressed the importance of prioritizing work according to available resources and institutional capacity. The minister further acknowledged that Rajarshi Janak University still has considerable work to do to reach the standards of other established universities and called for greater efforts to strengthen its academic and research capabilities.
