Advance ticket booking for public transportation targeting the upcoming Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals will open from Ashoj 23. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of concerned stakeholders held at the Department of Transport Management on Tuesday. With more than 1 million passengers expected to leave Kathmandu Valley during Dashain, the department held discussions with transport entrepreneurs, transport workers’ organizations, Nepal Police, traffic police, and representatives of Lhotse Multipurpose Pvt. Ltd., the operator of New Bus Park. Following the discussions, stakeholders agreed to begin advance ticket booking from Ashoj 23, according to Deepak KC, president of the All Nepal Transport Workers’ Organization. The meeting also introduced measures to improve passenger safety and transport management during the festival period. Long-distance public vehicles will be required to have two drivers, while ticket-counter staff must wear uniforms and display identification cards. Transport operators will also be required to record passengers’ names and contact numbers when selling tickets. The measures aim to make ticket sales and vehicle operations more organized, transparent, and reliable during the festival rush.
