NOC Slashes Fuel Prices; Petrol Drops by Rs 20, Cooking Gas Down by Rs 100

The state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a significant reduction in the retail prices of major petroleum products and cooking gas. Driven by its automated pricing mechanism and declining procurement costs from India, the rate cuts bring widespread relief to consumers, with petrol prices slashed by Rs 20 per liter and cooking LPG reduced by Rs 100 per cylinder.

In a major move providing financial relief to consumers nationwide, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a substantial downward revision in the prices of petroleum products, domestic aviation fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Following a board of directors meeting on Tuesday, the state-owned enterprise declared a reduction of Rs 20 per liter for petrol, and Rs 30 per liter for both diesel and kerosene. Additionally, domestic aviation fuel has been cut by Rs 40 per liter, while international aviation turbine fuel for Kathmandu fell by US$ 265 per kiloliter. Cooking gas (LPG) has also seen a reduction of Rs 100, bringing the cost of a standard 14.2 kg cylinder down to Rs 2,060. Under the restructured three-tier pricing model, the new retail rate for petrol in major metropolitan hubs—including Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal—has dropped to Rs 197 per liter, down from its prior rate of Rs 217. Diesel and kerosene in these regions are now standardized at Rs 195 per liter. In the first category markets (such as Biratnagar and Nepalgunj), petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 194.50 and Rs 192.50 per liter respectively, while second category regions like Surkhet and Dang will see petrol capped at Rs 196 per liter. According to corporation officials, these adjustments were executed via the automated market-pricing framework to reflect the lower import purchase rates recently supplied by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) alongside shifts in global energy markets.
